Dear Members and Friends of CALCASA,
As advocates against sexual violence, we work year-round to provide services, promote prevention, and improve the systems that serve survivors of sexual assault. Sexual Assault Awareness Month offers us a special time to focus public attention on the realities of sexual violence, and those it impacts. When we encourage members of our community to DECIDE TO END SEXUAL VIOLENCE, we are engaging in a dialogue that can lay the foundation for change.
SAAM is also be time to honor the strength of survivors. It is a time to celebrate communities who decide to STAND UP and SPEAK OUT against sexual violence. It is a time to commemorate those who have made meaningful contributions to the prevention and intervention of sexual assault.
In this packet you will find an array of awareness-raising approaches that have been used successfully across California including sample press releases, event suggestions, policy resolutions and advertisements. Each of these strategies can be adapted to best fit the needs of your community.
What an amazing year it has been! It feels like just yesterday I began my tenure at CALCASA, and during that time I have learned so much about the dynamic work of advocates and activists across this state to end sexual violence. This Sexual Assault Awareness Month I hope you can take a moment to celebrate our successes, re-commit ourselves to our common mission, and share your innovative strategies to promote change.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Brown-McBride
